Below is information about the Multiplication Tables Check that all pupils take in while Year 4. Children learn their times-tables regularly at school and our homework reinforces this through use of the Times-Tables Rockstar (TTRS) website and app. At the bottom of this page are other websites that can aid your child's preparations for this assessment. As parents, supporting your child to learn their times-tables at home is one of the most beneficial ways you can help them in Maths. Children who know their Times-Tables are able to calculate more quickly in most areas of Maths. 

Schools must administer the MTC to all eligible year 4 pupils between Monday 5 June and Friday 16 June 2023.

What is the MTC?

The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is statutory for all year 4 pupils registered at state-funded maintained schools, special schools or academies (including free schools) in England.

Children answer 25 Times-Tables questions (up to 12 x12) and are allowed six seconds to type their answer to each question. 

The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times-tables fluently. Quick and accurate recall of these facts will benefit your child in all areas of their future mathematical studies. 

The MTC will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided. 

 

All children in Year 4 are regularly assessed on their fluent recall of times-tables and are taught their times-tables at school as part of Maths lessons. Homework throughout the year for your child has been linked to ‘Times-Tables Rockstar’, the online programme the school uses to support the learning of Times-Tables. The programme also has a replica of the MTC in the ‘Soundcheck’ section where pupils can practice. Each week at school children take part in a soundcheck to see the progress they have been making

This login can be found in the MCAS app under 'Reports' and is also available through contacting the office or your child's teacher .
