• Reminder to ensure children are reading at home and bringing in their reading records.

Home Learning:

Home Learning Task:

The children have completed their first term in Year 5! They have worked extremely hard and we are very proud of their efforts. For their home learning over the half term, we would like them to showcase what they have been proud of across Term 1. This could be a subject, a lesson, activity, competition entry, poem, piece of art or club achievement/ club they are involved in. They can explain why and present it in any way they choose: drawings, writing, PowerPoint, collage, other artwork or in any other way they wish. We can’t wait to see what they can come up with!

Homework is due on the first WEDNESDAY back after half term.

Reading:

Minimum 3x a week. Reading record must be signed by an adult. Can be completed on your own or with your parents.

Spelling Shed:

Once a week – Friday to Friday. 

Tasks will be completed online, with new tasks set every week.

Tasks will always follow the spellings being taught in class that week. 

 Times Tables Rock Stars:

Minimum 3x a week.

Can be completed on tablets, laptops or mobile phones though the app or the website.

English:

This week children have been writing persuasive speeches based on the events happening in 'There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom'. They have been trying to persuade the principal to allow the counsellor (Carla) to keep her job. Throughout their speeches, they have been using persuasive techniques, emotive language, parenthesis, conjunctions and modal verbs. We would definitely have been persuaded to keep Carla!

We finished the week by celebrating the life of Maya Angelou, an American civil rights activist. We learnt how important she was in supporting black people and fought to have equal rights.

Maths:

This week in maths we continued our work with multiplication and division, which included prime numbers, square numbers and cube numbers. This will also carry on into next term and will be followed by our first look at fractions.

Topic:

This week, we focused on DT, which centred mostly around our bread making day. The children did a fabulous job baking bread and thoroughly enjoyed eating it afterwards. We hope you managed to get a taste as well.

Our new topic next term will be China.
