Termly Home Learning Task
We have been absolutely blown away by the home learning projects that have been completed this term. The range of ideas and quality of work has been exceptional; there really is no end to the talent of our Year 5 children. We have had cakes and cheesecakes; menus and fact files; and models using a variety of materials.
Here are some more of the great projects we have received:
English:
In English this week we have been studying a classic poem called ‘The Lady of Shalott’ by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. The children have been fabulous at decoding the poem and building meaning through key vocabulary. We also looked at a variety of poetic devices and found examples in the text. Our writing task this week was to write a poem in the style of ‘The Lady of Shalott’ which explored the curse further. The children used a range of similes, metaphors, personification and alliteration.
After the half term, we will begin our new text and explore space through non-fiction texts.
Maths:
This week in maths we drew line graphs and comparison graphs from information in a table. We needed to work out a suitable scale for our axes and then ensure the points were plotted accurately. We understood the importance of using a ruler and making the intervals equal. To finish the graph, we labelled the axes and gave the graph a title.
After half term, we will look at timetables.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week our focus has been on the religion of Judaism. We looked at important places and items needed for worship; the role of the Rabbi; and the festival of Hanukkah. We finished the week by creating a stained-glass window piece of art with the hanukiah at the centre.
After half term, we will focus on PSHE for the first week. For more information, please see the dedicated PD post in the Year 5 blog.
We hope you have a fabulous half term!
