In English, we ended Term 1 bringing together all the skills we have learnt over the previous six weeks by creating a narrative. The children have been wonderfully engaged in creating their own sequel to our class text – Leon and The Place Between. We linked this learning to studying Kit Wright’s wonderful poem, “The Magic Box”.

At the start of Term 2, the children will kick off our new topic of Maya Civilisation with a focus on using and creating non-fiction texts that explain the history and culture of the Maya.

Maths

Our Maths learning continued to focus on multiplication and division. We developed understanding further, multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100 and investigation strategies for multiplying mentally. 

Week 1 of Term 2 will see us complete the of multiplication and division with a look at the distributive law and multiplying three numbers together.

Thematic

Our learning in the afternoons has been focused on Religious Education, where the whole school has been studying different elements of Judaism. In Year 4 we are studying three of the main Jewish Festivals – Yom Kippur, Passover and Hanukkah.  

Next term, we begin our investigation into the Maya Civilisation. Children will discover the geographical features that shaped society and how the Maya developed over time. Including their design of cities, Gods and Goddesses, the culture of the arts and the important rituals associated with death.  

Love to Learn

READING: Children in Year 4 are expected to read at home at least three times a week. It is important that the children bring in their reading records daily so that we can check in for progress and read with the children in school. Please read as often as possible at home over half-term. Thank you for your support.

MATHS: The children will now have received their Mathletics login details. Maths homework tasks will now be available on the website. Please also continue to practise timetables using TTRS.

THEMATIC: We will be setting a new homework task for Term 2 once we return after the holiday.

Reminders:

The expectation of uniform is that hair is tied back if it is below the shoulders. Hoodies (apart from those provided by the school) are not permitted and children should be wearing school shoes, not trainers apart from on PE days. PE kit should be navy or black with their house colour t-shirt.
