English:
This week children have been researching and learning about Victorians as part of our nonfiction week. Children have written a speech about how the Victorian era impacted life today.
Next week the children will begin their text on The Highwayman where they will write a setting description from the first page in the text focusing on figurative language.
Maths:
This week in maths we have been focusing fractions. We have looked at equivalent fractions by making fraction wall and using Cuisenaire to compare equivalent fractions.
Next week, we will be moving onto comparing and ordering fractions by looking at the common denominator. We will need to use our times tables knowledge to support us with this.
Thematic Curriculum & PSHE:
This week, the children have been looking at our Personal Development curriculum which has been focused on equality, diversity and inclusion within relationships. In line with government guidance, learnt about the Protected Characteristics. Protected Characteristics are not allowed to be the subject of discrimination. We focused specifically on disability, sexual orientation and religion and belief. It was a fantastic week of learning in which the children learnt about human rights and the incredible fact that people around the world are all different, diverse and unique! Throughout the rest of the week we focused on the objective below:
To understand different terms of gender identity
To understand different loving relationships
To understand marriage and acceptance
Next week, we will begin our learning on Victorians starting with creating a human timeline. Lesson two will be exploring child employment and then to end the week we will be writing contrasting diary entries of children living in different social classes to explain what their life was like.
