What a week it has been! We have been blown away by Year 3's competitive spirit, teamwork and outstanding times table knowledge and Upton are officially Champions of the Viking Academy Trust Year 3 TTRS Battle, with our 6 learning groups occupying the 6 top spots on the leaderboard. The children answered a whopping 351, 522 multiplication and division questions correctly over the course of the week. 

Special recognition goes to Lucas, Saksham and Samarth who finish the week in the top three spots. Christopher, Neve, Sam, Erick, Jacob, and Nojus also made it into the top 10.

The times table knowledge and recall in Year 3 is truly impressive and the children should be so proud of their efforts!

 

Reminders:

- Blue and Green class have swimming on a Monday.

- Tuesday is PE day, so please send your child into school wearing their PE kit.

- Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school uniform.

- The 2nd February is Number Day.

 

Kindness cup:

Every week a child from each class will be awarded the kindness cup - a special trophy that sits on their desk for the whole week. A child is either chosen by their teacher or nominated by their peers for displaying kindness that week.

English

In English this week, we have been exploring letter writing, writing first to Mrs Silver as Mr Hoppy, profusing our love and then composing a response. We had an amazing visit from author Ciaran Murtagh who the children all found absolutely hilarous and hugely inspiring! Next week we will work on writing in role as Alfie the tortoise.

Maths

We continue to work on multiplication and division in Year 3, deriving related facts from known facts and of course, being TTRS champions....

Thematic

In our thematic learning this week we have been created interactive books for younger children to learn about our joints and muscles.

Next week we will be creating a healthy coleslaw!

 

Homework

- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.

- Children have now been given their log-in details for Times Table Rock Stars. They should be playing this at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.

- Children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
