Termly Home Learning Task - Term 3: Marvels of Matter
This term in Year 5 we will be exploring our new topic, Marvels of Matter. In this component of our thematic curriculum, the children will be exploring the history of Anglo-Saxon Britain whilst also exploring states of matter in science. We would like the children to delve further into their history learning during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make, the possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school during the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success! Likewise, if your child creates something digital, feel free to email this to class teachers.
We have just one week left and would love to see many more homework projects next week.
Here are some more of the great projects we have received:
English:
In English this week our reading of ‘Anglo-Saxon Boy’ continued and we are poised nicely for battle as we conclude the book next week. In writing, we focused on writing a newspaper article using direct and reported speech and wrote an internal monologue as Magnus, exploring his thoughts and feelings towards his father (Harold) and uncle (Tostig).
Next week we will be writing our own quest story based on the events in the text.
Maths:
This week in maths we finished our fractions and decimals unit by looking at ordering decimal numbers, rounding numbers to the whole and 1 decimal place and division through fractions. We also completed the post-unit quiz.
Next week we will begin the next unit, which will be about angles – measuring, drawing and investigating angles in shapes.
Today we celebrated Number Day by having a morning dedicated to maths. We completed an escape room, number challenges, times tables games and had a go at making an origami butterfly. We also looked fabulous dressed up in numbers or like rock stars.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week we completed our Sutton Hoo newspaper article and got ready for our walking museum. We had a fantastic time this afternoon when we invited parents and carers in to celebrate our term of learning. We enjoyed learning and performing our song ‘Invade’ to start off the afternoon. Then, we were expert tour guides explaining the knowledge that we have gained this term about Anglo-Saxons. We hope all of our adults enjoyed taking part in all the activities on offer and enjoyed hearing all about our learning. Thank you to everyone who came to support us!
Next week we will complete the term with our RE learning about the religion: Buddhism.
