One Childhood - One Chance

10.5.24 Year 4 Weekly News

A warmer week in year 4!

In Maths this week,  the children continued their unit of solving problems with money and measure.  They have been discovering the most appropriate unit of measure for various items and then learning the skills to convert this into different units by multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. Next week, the children will apply their knowledge of money to solve problems.

In English this week, the children wrote recount events with a focus on using subordinate clauses in their writing. They read more of the class text and completed a reading comprehension on Rivers! Next week, the children will be writing a narrative linking to the mythical sea creature they created earlier this term. This will have a focus on fronted adverbials and clauses. The children will also complete more reading of the class text.

This week in thematic, the children compared rainfall in the UK and Kenya and discussed how temperature is a factor in this. This lead to how water is used in both countries, focusing on availability and similarities and differences. Next week, the children will be learning about the land use around the River Thames and how the river is used. They will also learn about states of matter, ready to carry out a science investigation later in the week!
