We started this term, as always, with a non-fiction focus, exploring the importance of the Amazon Rainforest. The children used a range of sources to take notes and finally, create a non-fiction piece discussing why the rainforest is so crucial.
Next week, we will begin reading our classic text, Charlotte’s Web, and write a number of diary entries using emotive language.
Maths
This term began with a focus on multiplicative thinking as the children solved a range of multiplication and division problems using bar models.
Next week, we will move on to exploring calculation strategies.
Thematic Curriculum
This week had a Personal Development focus as we explored the topical issue of zoos, learnt about rights and e-safety. Each class then spend time learning about their Olympic country for Diversity Week and started practising a related song or a dance.
Next week, we will begin our topic Rainforest Revealed by learning about biomes and the different layers of a rainforest.
Homework
- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.
- Children have now been given their log-in details for Times Table Rock Stars. They should be playing this at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.
- Children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
