This week, we have been focusing on emotive language. We have written about a fight scene within the book, from different children's points of view. This has given the children the opportunity to express themselves as characters in the story and also explore differing emotions. On Thursday, the children celebrated National Poetry Day. They explored the poem, How to Cut a Pomegranate. They sketched fruits and gathered vivid and rich vocabulary. They then used this to write a descriptive poem about a chosen fruit. Next week, the children are continuing their learning about emotive language and will be exploring an internal monologue.
Maths
This week, the children have been exploring column method when used to problem solve. The children have worked on missing number problems, spot the mistake and explain why something might be difficult to solve. Next week, the children start their learning about line graphs.
Thematic Curriculum
This week, the children have been learning about deserts in North America. The children then studied life cycles of animals and worked in groups to create posters to share to the class. Our caterpillars have started their chrysalising and we cannot wait to watch them move into the next stage of their life cycle!
Key Dates:
Homework
- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.
- All children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
