Termly Home Learning Task - Term 1: Make Some Noise
This term in Year 4 we are exploring sound - how we hear and what sound waves look like. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make, the possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought back into school before the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in, or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!
English:
In English this week we used our artwork to write a character description of Abdul Kazam – the magician in our class text. We thought carefully about our choice of vocabulary to create a magical and mystical atmosphere.
Next week we will be writing a playscript, ensuring we use all of the correct features.
Maths:
This week in maths we used column methods to solve addition and subtraction word problems. We drew bar models to represent the problem then solved the calculation.
Next week we will conclude our addition and subtraction unit and will begin our work on multiplication.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week we have been celebrating our cultural capital week. We began by looking at scientist Heinrich Hertz’s life and works. On Wednesday, we took part in a workshop and discovered how technology is used in music. We also looked at different instruments and completed a call and response activity using djembe drums. Friday was our Wow day where we took part in a carousel of activities. These included a guess the sound session and quiz using Kahoot, making a string telephone, painting in the style of Kandinsky and a BSL session led by members of Palm Deaf BSL. It has been a fun, learning-rich week, where we have broadened our understanding of both sound and those who live without sound.
The online music program can be found here: BandLab - Make Music Online
Next week we look forward to inviting parents in to see what we have been learning this term.
This week, we also took part in the 5K Fun Run. It's been a busy week!
