Today marked the end of our 3-week immersion project with 20 Columbian students. It has not just been the buddies who have welcomed our Columbian friends and encouraged them to feel part of Upton but all of the Year 6 children. It has been such a valuable experience for all of us!

 

 

English

This week we have focused on writing the internal monologue of our main character, Gunnar, using the first person to show in depth characterisation. We have also learnt all about pronouns (personal, possessive and relative) during our PAG sessions.

Next week we will begin to plan and write our own Viking quests whilst continuing to explore Gunnar’s journey.

Maths

This week we have written and solved a range of algebraic expressions in maths.

Next week we begin our new unit which focuses on fractions!

Thematic Curriculum

This week, we have learnt about significant figures from the time including Alfred the Great, Edward the Confessor and King Cnut, even creating job applications for the role of king!

Next week we will learn about what the Vikings brought to the country, exploring the influences we still see today!

Homework

- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.

- Children should be playing TTRS at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.

- Children have taken their Term 2 AR Star Reader assessment and their ZPD can be found on their AR account. They will also receive a sticker next week to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
