Year 6 Weekly News 29.11.24
This week in Year 6....
Next week promises to be both busy and exciting for Year 6! They will be taking part in our Open Day events, before heading off to Marlowe Theatre to see Beauty and the Beast. Children will need a coat, a healthy snack, and a small treat for the pantomime trip. A plastic bottle of water would be preferable over reusable on this occasion.
If your child is serving as a tour guide or an ambassador during our Open Evening, please ensure they have returned their permission slip by now to join us in this special session.
On the night, kindly drop them off at the office by 6.05pm in their full uniform, and make sure to collect them from the playground at 7.30pm.
Thank you for your support in this busy term, and we look forward to an enjoyable week ahead!
English
This week, Year 6 have dived into creating their own Viking quests! The children crafted unique characters and imaginative settings, using a video to spark their creativity. We also tackled some inference and retrieval questions based on "Viking Boy."
Next week, we’ll continue weaving in description and dialogue to our tales!
Maths
This week in maths, Year 6 have been focused on exploring fractions. We have concentrated on expressing fractions in their simplest form before ordering and comparing a variety of them.
Next week, we will be moving on to converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers.
Thematic Curriculum
This week, the children spent an afternoon independently researching the lasting impact of the Vikings on our lives. They used a variety of resources to delve into how Viking influence shaped different aspects of modern society, from language and place names to legal systems. The children then presented their findings in their books as creatively as possible.
Next week we will be creating our own Viking longboats.
Homework
- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.
- Children should be playing TTRS at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.
- Children have taken their Term 2 AR Star Reader assessment and their ZPD can be found on their AR account. They will also receive a sticker next week to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one.
