English:
In English this week we continued reading our text, and we wrote a comparative setting description of Mount St. Helens before and after the eruption. Our focus was to use prepositional phrases and ambitious vocabulary. We used drama to portray how the characters could have acted/ been feeling during some scenes of the text.
Next week, we will write a newspaper report on the eruption of Mount Pelee.
Maths:
This week in maths we began our work on fractions by looking at and drawing different representations of fractions. We also started to look at equivalent fractions and built our own fraction walls.
Next week we will continue with fractions by extending our equivalent fractions work, and will build on our knowledge of fractions of quantities.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week during our afternoon lessons, we welcomed in some visitors from two local charities: Broadstairs Disabled Riding Centre and Broadstairs Town Team. Both are very local charities to us and the children were keen to hear about the work that they do and asked many questions to deepen their understanding.
We also learnt more about the different features of a volcano and how they are formed. We created a double-page spread detailing the information and made a flapped cross-section of a volcano.
Next week we will continue to explore volcanoes in more depth.
