This week in Year 6...

Trips to Royal Harbour Academy for cooking

Monday 3rd February – 6R and 6Y

Thursday 6th February – 6B and 6G

Please remember children will need a plastic container for their cooking on the day. We will be walking to RHA so all children will also need a waterproof coat.

English

In English, this week we have been planning and writing a narrative based on a chapter of Skellig whilst exploring semi-colons and colons in our Grammar sessions.

Next week, we will continue our narratives before exploring ‘The Angel’ by William Blake.

Maths

This week we have focused on applying formulae to find the area of rectangles, triangles and parallelograms.

Next week, we’ll work on finding the volume of cubes and cuboids.

Thematic Curriculum

This week we have taste tested a range of store-bought Bolognese sauces ahead of our trip to Royal Harbour to cook our own. On Wednesday, we spent the day celebrating Chinese New Year with a range of engaging activities including Tai Chi and dragon paper crafts.

Next week, we will made our own Bolognese sauces before evaluating their nutrition value.

Homework

- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.

- Children should be playing TTRS at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.

- Most children have now taken their Term 3 AR Star Reader assessment and their ZPD can be found on their AR account. They will also receive a sticker next week to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.

Welcome (renaissance-go.com)

- Mathletics homework has also been set for the children to complete by next Friday.

- Our Thematic homework grid is attached below.

Please see some deliciously creative homework from Fiona and Zara, who spend 4.5 hours making biscuit hearts and lungs!
