31.1.25 Year 5 Weekly News

Term 3 Week 4

English

This week, the children wrote their internal monologues from our main characters points of view. They used rhetorical questions to express their feelings, alongside ambitious and emotive language. In SPAG, the children were learning about homophones and simple and complex sentences. Next week, the children will be writing an Anglo-Saxon quest story based on our story. They will focus on using a range of clauses.

Maths

This week, the children have been solving problems with fractions using division, rounding decimals and consolidating their understanding. Next week, we will be finishing our fractions and decimals journey with our post-unit quiz and beginning our next unit, angles.

Thematic

This week, the children learnt about the events in Sutton Hoo. They researched the findings and events that followed. They have started writing their newspaper reports and will continue doing them next week.

Mandarin day

The children carried out a range of activities on Chinese New Year, including; writing a fact file about the Myth of Nian, Chinese methods of multiplication and making paper snakes to celebrate the year of the snake. In the afternoon, the children also took part in Tai Chi and sang in the hall.
