One Childhood - One Chance

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum inspires enquiring minds and a love of learning. We prioritise the fundamental skills of reading, writing and maths fluency so that our children can confidently access our broad curriculum offer.

We make use of high-quality learning resources and materials as well as our extensive facilities to provide memorable learning experiences. The Arts and PE & Sport have a high profile so that every child can explore and make the most of their interests and talents.

Personal Development and a culture of respect are also fundamental to learning. Children learn about safe and healthy relationships and how to positively contribute to our community.

We provide a wealth of opportunity so that every child explores and reaches their full potential and leaves us ready for the next stage in their education.

Rationale - A Thematic Approach
Our Thematic curriculum includes Science, History and Geography and is designed so that children become confident in making links between the knowledge they learn. Each term, learning centres on a theme or topic which is designed using the national curriculum to structure objectives progressively from Year 3 to 6 with consideration of what has come before in Key Stage One. Learning is carefully sequenced and teachers create learning journeys to map out key knowledge, skills and understanding alongside making the most of cultural capital opportunities.

Art and Design Technology may be linked to the thematic curriculum at times but they are mostly taught discretely to ensure that the quality of learning in these subjects is preserved. Art, Music, MFL (Mandarin) and Computing are all taught by specialist teachers.
