21.03.25 Year 3 Weekly News
Wow, what a week!
Thematic
This week in Thematic, we have been learning about Hadrian's Wall. The children enjoyed discovering how Roman soldiers lived along the wall, their daily routines, and the impressive engineering skills that went into constructing this legendary structure. In addition to learning about Roman architecture, we delved into the religious beliefs of the Romans. The children explored the many gods and goddesses worshipped by the Romans, such as Jupiter, the king of the gods; Venus, the goddess of love and beauty; and Mars, the god of war. They were fascinated by the myths and legends associated with these deities and how they played a central role in Roman culture and daily life. To bring our learning to life, the children created their own model Lararium, a small household shrine where Roman families would make offerings to their gods. Using their creativity, they designed and decorated their shrines.
It has been an exciting and enriching week of discovery, and we can't wait for next week, where we will be exploring further, the impact of Roman culture on Britain.
Maths
In Maths, we have been tackling challenging problems and developing deeper reasoning skills using multiplication and division. The children have been working hard to apply their knowledge in a variety of contexts, using different strategies to solve problems efficiently. Through engaging activities and discussions, they have been encouraged to explain their reasoning, justify their answers, and think critically about different approaches to problem-solving. We have also explored real-world applications of multiplication and division, helping to reinforce their understanding and confidence in these key mathematical concepts.
Next week, we will be moving onto a new topic in Maths, where we will be learning about ‘Time’.
English
This week, we have been stepping into the shoes of a Celt Warrior, immersing ourselves in the chaos and fury of battle through our writing. We have used emotive language to bring our words to life, crafting powerful descriptions that capture the raw intensity of the battlefield. With rich and varied vocabulary, we have painted vivid pictures of the warrior’s experience. By taking on the role of a Celt warrior, we have not only improved our storytelling skills but have also gained a deeper understanding of what it means to fight for something greater than ourselves.
Next week, we will be writing a newspaper report documenting how the Warrior Queen, in our core text, betrays the Britons.
Red Nose Day
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents who were able to join us for our 80’s themed disco in support of Red Nose Day. From leg warmers to big hair, the effort put into the outfits was incredible, making the event even more special.
Red Nose Day is all about making a difference, and we are proud to have played our part. Through generous donations and enthusiastic participation, we have contributed to helping those in need, proving that a little fun can go a long way in supporting a worthy cause.
Thank you once again to everyone who took part, donated, and made the event such a success!
