Termly Home Learning Task - Term 1: Make Some Noise

This term in Year 4 we are exploring sound - how we hear and what sound waves look like. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make - the possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought back into school before the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

We look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.

English:

In English this week we wrote a letter in role as Gregory to his mum and dad back at home. The children used a mixture of describing what happened as well as how Gregory felt about it. The focus was to use paragraphs and we introduced TiP ToP, a way to remember when to use a new paragraph. During one of our reading sessions, the children shared their favourite books with each other and explained what they liked about them.

Next week we will be writing a comparative setting description of Broadstairs and Tobago.

Maths:

This week in maths we continued with place value and added and subtracted 10, 100 and 1,000. We began using number lines for rounding to the nearest 10.

Next week we will continue to round to 10 and introduce rounding to 100 and 1,000.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week we started our new topic ‘Make Some Noise’. During our afternoon lessons we looked at how we hear sounds and what different sound waves look like. We investigated vibrations through different experiments and explored the differences in high/low-pitched sounds and quiet/loud volumes.

Next week we will be looking at how the ear works and altering the loudness of sounds.
