Termly Home Learning Task - Term 2: Walk Like an Egyptian
This term in Year 4 we are exploring the Ancient Egyptians - how they lived and significant events and figures from the time. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make, the possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought back into school before the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!
We look forward to seeing some fabulous pieces.
English:
In English this week we read more of our book – Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx - and found out what Father’s urgent business was. We began writing a setting description of the sphinx and surrounding areas. This week, we also learnt about the importance of Remembrance Day and completed a lesson linked to anti-bullying and Odd Socks Day. We wrote our own acrostic poems using ‘I CHOOSE RESPECT’. During one of our reading sessions, we shared our Reading for Pleasure posters with Year 3 and read them some pages from a book that interests us.
Next week we will be completing our setting description and will write a journal for Marcy’s adventure. We will also complete our text and act out some scenes from the book.
Maths:
This week in maths we finished our multiplication and division unit by consolidating our understanding of short multiplication and used mental methods to divide.
Next week we will begin our next unit, which is discrete and continuous data.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week we began our Thematic topic: Walk Like an Egyptian, which is focused on Ancient Egypt. We learnt about some key pharaohs and wrote fact files on them as a group. We learnt about the importance of the River Nile and finished the week learning about the pyramids and made the pyramids of Giza out of clay.
Next week we will explore mummification and Ancient Egyptian artefacts. Our Wow Day is on Friday.
Well done to Maiya (4Y), who competed in a 'Winter Wonder Jam' dancing competition in Dorset at the weekend. She was very successful and came 4th in her duos and 1st place in her solos. Keep up the fantastic work!
Art Competition:
In this term's art competition, you will get the chance to create your own Pop Art Masterpiece inspired by our artist of the term: Roy Lichtenstein!
Using Lichtenstein's style as a guide, create a work of art that uses bright colours, bold outlines, and Ben-Day dots to show an exciting scene or object from your daily life. This could be a favourite toy, a scene at school, anything that is personal to you.
The competition starts from Monday 11th November and closes Friday 20th December. Please bring all entries to Mr Mason’s art room and be sure to include your name and class on your artwork. Winners will be announced at the beginning of term 3. Good luck!
