Term 4: Innovation Station
This term in Year 4 we are learning about the ancient inventions of the Islamic world and how we still use some of the products today. We will be learning about the Silk Road and how trade played a crucial role in the innovation of new ideas. We will also be exploring electricity, including circuits and how different materials can be classified as insulators or conductors. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks, or a related task of their choosing. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make. The possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought into school before the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!
Please bring in any Thematic homework before the end of term.
English:
In English this week we wrote a series of diary entries in role as Bryce, using emotive language. We read some really sad chapters in the story and empathised with the characters. We also looked at the origins of some of our key vocabulary.
Next week we will finish our book: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We will also write a poem to depict his journey.
Maths:
This week in maths we continued exploring decimals by looking at hundredths, decimal and fraction equivalents for a half, a quarter and three quarters and ordering decimals. We used Dienes and counters to show the numbers and discussed how we know their values.
Next week we will conclude our decimals unit by multiplying and dividing by 100.
Thematic Curriculum:
During our afternoon sessions this week, we investigated conductors and insulators and made a light-up model using a circuit, including a switch. We also explored more about the Easter story and Christianity.
Next week we will conclude our Innovation Station topic and complete the Easter story.
