Term 4: Innovation Station

This term in Year 4 we have been learning about the ancient inventions of the Islamic world and how we still use some of the products today. We also explored electricity, including circuits and how different materials can be classified as insulators or conductors.

Thank you and well done to everyone who completed a homework task and brought it in to share with us.

English:

In English this week we finished reading 'The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane'. To remember his journey and how he transformed as a ‘person’, we wrote a free-verse poem about the key events on his journey. We included many poetic features but no rhyming.

Next term we will read the book: ‘Song of the Dolphin Boy’ and will write an entwined character and setting description, a folk tale and a persuasive letter.

Maths:

This week in maths we finished our decimals unit, which concluded with multiplying and dividing by 100. We also completed our post-unit quiz.

Next term we will begin by exploring area and perimeter.

Thematic Curriculum:

During our afternoon sessions this week, we took part in a scavenger hunt to find out about the meaning of some Easter symbols and solidified our understanding of the Easter story. We also took a trip to St Peter’s church where we learnt about some of the key items you would find in a church and explored some of the stoles and robes the vicars wear. It was a super afternoon.

Next term our new topic is Water World. Please see in the attachments below the knowledge organiser, where you will find key vocabulary.
