This week, we have been focusing on vivid and descriptive language. We wrote a character description of Bradley, focusing on his kind and unkind sides. Towards the end of the week, the children designed their own dream bedroom. They got to decide what went in it and how it looked. The children then wrote about their dream bedroom using expanded noun phrases to describe. Next week, we are going to be looking at different viewpoints in a scenario and how children can use emotive language to express these.
Maths
This week, the children were working on rounding and adjusting, mental strategies and estimating. Next week, the children will begin arithmetic sessions and also focus on column method for addition and subtraction.
Thematic Curriculum
This week, the children learnt about mountain ranges in the UK and compared them to mountain ranges in North America. The children located them on maps and then researched some key facts for each mountain range. On Friday, the children wrote postcards from the top of the mountains to explain what they can see.
The children are also excited to see the arrival of our caterpillars to year 5! We will be watching them grow and transform over the next few weeks.
Key Date:

Homework
- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.
- Most children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
