One Childhood - One Chance

18.10.24 Year 5 Weekly News

Term 1 Week 7

English

This week, we wrote a speech to persuade Bradley's class to give him a chance and to be his friend. The children used all of their existing knowledge about Bradley and how he behaves, to write a speech. They focused on using emotive language alongside persuasive language to engage the reader. Next week, the children will be moving onto 'The Lady of Shallott.' They will be writing a descriptive poem focusing on adverbials.

Maths

This week, the children have been learning how to read and interpret timetables. They have been studying Olympic schedules and also learning how to read bus times. Next week, the children will be consolidating their learning and preparing for multiplication and division after half term.

Thematic Curriculum

This week, the children learnt about the human impact on North America's environment. The children learnt about the positives and negatives including deforestation, urbanisation and renewable energy, The children used this knowledge to write a persuasive speech to the North American people. The purpose was to inform them of existing issues and also to suggest how this can be changed for the better. Next week, the children will be learning about Judaism for RE week. Today, the children released the butterflies. See some photos below.
