This week, the children have studied space poetry. They started the week with a poetry-themed book banter and having a look at a range of poems. The children then planned and wrote their own rhyming narrative poem. This could tell a story, have a hidden meaning or describe a journey. At the end of the week, the children wrote a calligram. In Pag this week, the children have been working on complex sentences, using the 5W's to build them. In reading, the children have explored poetry, answered comprehension questions and used their reciprocal reading strategies when reading the class text. Next week, the children are writing a playscript!
Maths
This week, the children have been learning long multiplication. They have used known facts and area models to understand how long multiplication works. We showed them how to use the formal written method, teaching them a step by step approach. Next week, we are starting short division.
Thematic
The children continued their journey in space this week. On Monday, the children entered the astrodome where they learnt about the constellations, Planet X and why Pluto is no longer a planet. They listened to Gustav Holst's 'The Planets' and created an artistic solar system. The children have created space tourism advertisements, learnt about space disasters and made the solar system to learn the planets. Next week, the children will be learning more about the planets and how the Sun plays a key part in our solar system.
Art Competition
In this term's art competition, you will get the chance to create your own Pop Art Masterpiece inspired by our artist of the term: Roy Lichtenstein!
Using Lichtenstein's style as a guide, create a work of art that uses bright colours, bold outlines, and Ben-Day dots to show an exciting scene or object from your daily life. This could be a favourite toy, a scene at school, anything that is personal to you.
The competition starts from Monday 11th November and closes Friday 20th December. Please bring all entries to Mr Mason’s art room and be sure to include your name and class on your artwork. Winners will be announced at the beginning of term 3. Good luck!

Homework
- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.
- All children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
