One Childhood - One Chance

28.2.25 Year 5 Weekly News

Term 4 Week 1

English

This week, we began the week by writing a description about our own world above the clouds. We introduced this concept as it linked to our new text; 'Who Let the Gods Out,' in which the main character ends up in Elysium, a home for the Greek Zodiac council above the clouds of Earth. Following this, the children drew Elysium based on the description in the book. They used this drawing to then write an up-levelled version of this description. Next week, the children will be creating a wanted poster for the 'Daemon of death' in our story and writing a news report of his escape.

Maths

This week, the children have finished their unit on angles. They learnt how to find missing angles on a straight line and how to problem solve with angles. Next week, they are going to be adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators.

Thematic

This week, we started the week by learning about Kindness. Our PD day was focused on kindness and the children created a beautiful piece of artwork to represent this. The rest of the week, we have discussed conflicts, dares and risks, which all link to our PSHE curriculum. Next week, we are going to be starting our topic, Gods and Mortals. We will be learning about life in Athens and Sparta.
