28.3.25 Year 5 Weekly News

Term 4 Week 5

English

This week, the children finished and edited their narratives, and then published their writing. Next week, they are going to be writing instructions on how to build a CAMS model, following on from DT day this week. They are going to focus on imperative verbs and adverbs.

Maths

This week, the children have been problem-solving with percentages and started their new unit, translations. They have learnt how to describe a translation of a shape and to explain the co-ordinates.

DT day

On Tuesday, the children had DT day! Their task was to build a working CAMS model to represent a Greek invention. We focused our designing and building on Greek theatre. The children designed their models using sketches and exploding diagrams. After break, they built their models using CAMS. Every group built a moving theatre, in which the characters pop up. During the afternoon, they evaluated their designs using spider diagrams.

WOW day

The children carried out five different activities across the day including; Greek food tasting, Greek dancing, Greek theatre, Olympic games and Ancient Greek pottery designing. It was a fantastic day and the children looked amazing! Thank you all so much for the fantastic costumes!
