We have had a great first week in Year 6, getting to know our classes and reuniting with familiar faces!
English
We started this term, as always, with a non-fiction focus, exploring Climate Change. The children used a range of sources to take notes and finally, create a non-chronological report detailing the cause and effects of this phenomenon.
Next week, we will begin reading our text, Floodland and write letters and diary entries based on the early events in the book.
Maths
This term has kicked off with a focus on integers and decimals as the children solved a range of place value questions and demonstrated their understanding using manipulatives.
Next week, we will move on to rounding and the application of rounding to a range of contexts.
Thematic Curriculum
This week had a Personal Development focus as we explored responsible communication online and the British Values.
Next week, we will begin our topic Darwin’s Delights by learning about the explorer’s life.
Homework
- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.
- Children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
