This week has been such a highlight of the term! Our trips to the Powell Cotton Museum were so enjoyable for the children and adults alike. Each class was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with and our guides at the museum remarked on the excellent behaviour, engagement and manners of our Year 6.

English

This week, the children have been planning and writing narratives based on a particularly action-packed chapter in Floodland. We spent time revising the rules of punctuating direct speech and explored how we could weave in description.

Next week we will finish our text and create a newspaper article detailing the final events.

Maths

This week we have worked on short and long multiplication with integers and decimals.

Next week, we will look at short and long division.

We also have a TTRS competition running between the learning groups.  

 

Thematic Curriculum

This week, we headed to the Powell Cotton Museum in Quex Park to explore the natural history collections. The children were amazed at the exotic dioramas and the opportunities to stand next to an elephant’s leg bone, stroke the skin of a snake and sketch a variety of creepy crawly creatures.

Next week we will take part in CPR sessions and start our work exploring our religion of the term, Judaism.

Homework

- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.

- Children should be playing TTRS at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.

- Children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.

- Mathletics homework has also been set for the children to complete by next Friday.
