This week, we started our text of the term Viking Boy written by a familiar author, Tony Bradman. We explored the story’s prologue, visualising the setting and introduced the main character. Gunnar. The children used show don’t tell techniques to craft a character description of the young Viking.

Next week we will use figurative language to write a setting description of the longhouse in flames.

Maths

This week we have completed our work on multiplication and division.

Next week we will work on the order of operations and explore the priority of each in a range of calculations.

Thematic Curriculum

This week has had a Personal Development focus as we explored the 9 Protected Characteristics.

Next week we will begin our Thematic Curriculum topic My Home, My Country. The children will initially learn when the Viking Age was before exploring where and why they invaded.

Homework

- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.

- Children should be playing TTRS at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.

- Children have taken their Term 2 AR Star Reader assessment and their ZPD can be found on their AR account. They will also receive a sticker next week to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
