Year 6 Weekly News 15.11.24
This week in Year 6...
English
This week, we used a video of a Viking settlement coupled with our text as a stimulus for a setting description packed with figurative language. We also undertook a close read of a particular page in the text, highlighting powerful word choice to create blackout poetry.
On Tuesday, we had a special lesson to mark Anti-Bullying week. Every class in the school joined an online lesson hosted by CBBC and created poetry based on the theme of respect.
Maths
This week we completed our work on the order of operations and dived into the world of algebra!
Next week our algebraic focus continues as we express missing number problems algebraically.
Thematic Curriculum
This week, to kick off our Thematic Curriculum topic My Home, My Country, the children learnt when the Viking Age was in relation to previous historical periods they have explored. We then drew maps to show Viking homelands and Viking settlements, before created video news reports detailing the raid at Lindisfarne in AD 793.
