One Childhood - One Chance

Bread making in 5B

This week in 5B, we have been focussing our attention on BREAD! On Wednesday, the children tried a variety of breads from naan to olive, sourdough to rye. We actually liked more than we thought we would. This helped to inspire our choice of extra ingredient for our bread making.

So, Thursday morning, 130 excited year 5 children filled the school hall, eager to make bread. The process went relatively smoothly and every child successfully added their own ingredient and received a baked loaf. The extra ingredients included: lemon, rosemary, chocolate and garlic. Cheese was also a very popular choice (including cheese and chocolate together).

On Thursday afternoon, we learnt about the importance of food safety laws and how they link to the British Values.

Finally, Friday afternoon arrived and the time for tasting the bread. The children were mostly pleased with what they had produced and some of the shapes of the loaves were very impressive. Some children had a go at the braid, which turned out very well. I hope you all enjoyed the taste of your child's bread!
