Year 5 Weekly News - Friday 10/06/2022
English
This week in English, we read the classical poem ’The Lady of Shalott'. The children enjoyed the vivid imagery and couldn't wait to find out what would happen in each part. We built towards writing an entwined character and setting description of the Lady of Shalott and Camelot.
Maths
This week in maths, we worked on an enterprise week project. We started by exploring the relationship between area and perimeter as we chose an imaginary allotment plot. We then moved on to work out the costs and potential profits of growing and selling vegetables. The children were quite the entrepreneurs!
UBBC
In the afternoons this week we learnt about the roles of money in people's lives. We discussed spending and saving and the effect of the pandemic on our shopping habits. The children expressed their ideas and opinions through table-top street art. Yesterday we encouraged the children to be critical consumers, always reading the small print and thinking carefully about the financial choices they make. We finished the week by creating and playing our own board games to learn about loans, interest and debt.
Home Learning Information
For home learning this week, we would like you write a speech about the potfuls and pleasures of money. Use all the writing skills you have learnt this year.
