Year 5 Weekly News - 24.6.22
English
This week in English, we started our new text 'Street Child' and the children are really enjoying it. We have already read the first few chapters and cannot wait to find out what will happen to Jim. We have been introduced to Mr Spink - the evil landlord! We drew him and collected vocabulary to describe him, we have also written letters from Jim's mum using emotive language.
Next week, we will be finding out about the workhouse and how the impacts Jim's life. We will be using art as a stimulus and writing detailed accounts of what life is like for Jim in the Workhouse.
Maths
This week in maths, we have been looking at co-ordinates and solving a range of problems using our knowledge. We have also linked our knowledge to topic and our geographical learning. Next week we will be learning about translation and symmetry.
UBBC
We continued our great learning about The Maya this week with a history focus. We have found out all about the civilisation of the Ancient Maya and their hierarchy. This week the learning has been really creative with the children creating their own hierarchies out of chalk on the playground and recording key facts on their iPads.
Next week we will continue to find out about the history of The Maya.
Home Learning Information
For home learning this week, we would like you to create an information piece based what you have learnt so far about the Maya. You need to link this to both history and geography. It could be a poster, double page spread or an informative piece of writing.
We look forward to seeing the different ways in which you present your work.
