One Childhood - One Chance

6B - Character Descriptions using Inference and Deduction

Today we looked at inference and deduction skills and from this we wrote character descriptions on 3 of the main characters: Dooby, Muchkin and Spat.

Dooby:

Dooby is an intimidating, ruthless character. Everyone is scared of him and he uses this fear to get things his own way. He is a violent bully and controls people with threats. He has a high opinion of himself and believes he is born to lead. He is clearly intelligent for he knows how to survive and teach others these survival skills. Recently we have discovered that he is planning to abandon the tribe and so we can assume from this he is disloyal and a liar. I believe the only reason he has stayed so long is that he was waiting for an opportunity to steal a boat for his own good rather the good of everyone.

Munchkin:

Munchkin is a shy, nervous character who relies on Spat and Dooby for protection. He lacks confidence and almost shrinks in his own body. He is unsure of himself and his position in the tribe, as a result he sticks to Dooby like glue. However, he has a secretive side because he hides himself away sometimes in a hidden hide-out. He could also be considered quite caring, on the inside, because he has a pet rat which he tries to feeds and look after. He doesn’t like to show this side to anyone, especially Dooby who would not approve of it.

William:

William is an odd character and really hard to define. He gets very confused and muddled with his words, but it isn’t nonsense, in fact if you carefully piece together what he is saying you realise that he knows what has happened and is the cleverest person the island. He cares for everyone, even Dooby, he doesn’t believe there are bad people just bad situations. People treat him like he is a mad man and poke fun at him, teasing and bullying him. If only they knew how loyal he really was. He even refused the chance to escape the island choosing instead to stay and try and persuade people from fighting.

Dooby:

Dooby can be a very different character he can be violent but is a great leader and considered ideas of others. We can tell that he is violent by what happened to the cat. Dooby has also shown that he can be caring of or Zoe but change his mind set with the click of his fingers and without thinking how he feels.

Dooby is a kind forgiving person. One may think but he can be a bully and also stay in a post i I’ve mind set. Dooby can also be a kind of weird character he can think of the positives and negatives its never one or the other. And , he is a bully that thinks of others maybe while he is being a bully.

Munchkin:

Munchkin is a kind shy character who is fast and loves to explore the island as well as being kind to many animals that are left and scatted around the island. Munchkin is a shy character you an tell by the way he talks to Zoe when she sneaks into his hideout in the cathedral. When he was talking to Zoe before she found his hideout you can tell that he was fast because he ran away from Zoe and  she went after him she went round the corner and he wasn’t there.

Munchkin is never where you need or want him to be when you need him unless he is told to be there by Dooby. You can also tell that he is kind but can be a bit hesitant when he is talking maybe because the island is folding and Dooby is the islands only hope of not being killed by each other.

Dooby:  Dooby is a very mean boy because he makes people feel bad and he manipulates people so they are scared of Dooby and will never disobey him. He sometimes has a nice touch to him and he looks after everyone and makes people feel happy. Dooby is very selfish because he always does things his way and thinks about him all the time but no one else. He did save people from hell but this do not mean that he is trust worthy......... just remember that.

Munchkin:  On the other hand, munchkin is very quiet and nothing like Dooby at all, he is a bit shy but he can shout. Munchkin likes to be alone sometimes and that’s why he has a secret cave to hide in if he wants to be away from anyone who has made him feel sad. Munchkin was very bad and felt like he couldn’t do anything anymore, then when Dooby came around everything changed, and I mean changed.

Dooby:

As we all know from the book, Dooby is the ignorant leader of the tribe ‘The Eels’.  He is diminutive to everyone else but is the most powerful of them all. Many bow down to him as he is the one who saved them. He uses even his closest companions for his own purposes because he is about to betray his friends and his people. He is ruthless towards others and is never hesitant towards his actions that involve violence.

Munchkin:

Munchkin, however, is the complete opposite. He is unbalanced on whose side he shall take, whether it is the right or the safe option. He is kind at heart but cannot show it in front of anyone other than his closest friends. He is frightened of Dooby but if he shows that, the consequences will certainly be vile!

William:

The eldest of them all, is William. He is the kindest of them all as well, but many think he is crazy. His stories seem to make no sense but overtime, you will begin to realise what they truly mean. He protects Zoe because she is the only one who truly understands him. He is the wisest as well because he is the only one who knows what it was like before the sea rose.

Dooby: Dooby is a very hostile person though he is a brilliant leader he has killed before. Maybe it was just to rise to power or to assert dominance, he hurts others even when he has already become a powerful leader not only those from other tribes, as we saw when he found that cat, but he also hurts and sometimes even kills those from his own tribe of Eels just so that he can set an example to the rest of those he has tricked into thinking he was a good person.

Munchkin: Munchkin may be with Dooby for most of his time but let me assure you he most definitely not like him Munchkin is even scared of Dooby. Munchkin is more a quiet person the kind of person who would rather be on his own than lead lots of people like Dooby which makes him quite an interesting character, even though we do not see much of him in the book, he is not really the centre of attention at many points in the story which makes sense since it suits his personality making him quite mysterious.
