6Y Kent Life WW2 Trip
WWII Experience
Year 6 visited Kent life and engaged in a range of different interactive activities from Home Guard, Evacuee Experience, Rag Rug making and Air Warden experience. They thoroughly enjoyed the day and dressed up as evacuees.
It was so nice to see the children showcase the knowledge and skills that they have learnt over the term.
The children experienced what it was like for city children to be evacuated to the countryside. They learnt about the precautions taken in an air raid and looked at the different safety measures put in place. The children learnt about the reasons to make rugs from rags during the 1940s. Clothes rationing and “Make do and mend” was discussed. Children learnt how to use a bodger and created a small rag rug to take home. Finally, the children learnt how to march properly with the home guard. It was a fantastic day!
We thoroughly enjoyed looking at the WWII houses and the Anderson shelters.
