Our PE day will continue to be on Wednesdays next term - Children should come in their PE kits.
This week we held our year group heats of 'The Speaker' competition. We had some AMAZING entries and the children made it very difficult to decide 3 winners as they were all so good! We just wanted to say a huge well done to every single Year 3 child that entered the competition, we are incredibly proud of you all and amazed at your bravery. We also want to wish our 3 winners the best of luck in the whole school heats on Thursday!
We also want to wish the Young Voices Club lots of luck as they are travelling to the O2 on Wednesday to sing!
This week:
What a fabulous week we have had!
In maths, we have continued our work on fractions, finding unit and non-unit fractions of amounts. We had some really fun lessons out on the playground using chalk to draw bar models and work out our calculations to find non-unit fractions of amounts.
In English, we have been creating some amazing character descriptions of Mr Hoppy and Mrs Silver from our new text, Esio Trot. The children were challenging themselves to combine using expanded noun phrases, prepositional phrases, fronted adverbials and subordinate clauses within their writing this week! The children did an amazing job!
Challenge - see if your child can remember what Esio Trot means?
In the afternoons in our UBBC, we introduced our new topic 'It's a small world'. We started the topic with an exciting WOW day, the children dissected a plant to lean about the key parts, they then learned all about pollination and why it is so important. The children even had a go at being a bee themselves, trying to pollinate some plants. Finally, the children learnt about the life cycle of a plant and made their own sycamore seeds which we then released from the top of the pirate ship to see how they dispersed. In year 3 this week we have also been joined by some fury friends! Each class has some caterpillars that they are looking after, we are going to observe how the grow and change and link this to the vital role that they play as pollinators.
Next week
Next week in UBBC, we will be doing lots of fun art activities based around our focus artist Henri Rousseau.
In English, we will be writing a letter from Mr Hoppy to Mrs Silver.
In Maths, some of the groups will continue with fractions whilst some of the groups will be looking at addition and subtraction.
