17.05.24 Year 3 Weekly News
This week in Year 3...
English
In English this week, the children have been learning how to correctly write and punctuate dialogue in order to create a discussion between several of the characters from our book. We then planned our own narrative, ‘The Midnight Adventure’, based loosely on events from the book.
Maths
This week, we continued our work on measures, learning to estimate and compare volume. Next week, we will use bar models to solve a number of measure related word problems.
Thematic Curriculum
This week, we have learnt all about chocolate! We have created timelines detailing the history of the sweet treat and learnt all about Cadbury's impact on Bournville, creating posters advertising the area.
Next week has a focus on Religious Education as we learn all about Islam.
Homework
- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.
- Children should be playing Times Tables Rockstars at least 3 times a week to build their confidence and fluency with times table knowledge.
- Children each have a ZPD code to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
Welcome (renaissance-go.com)
- Spelling shed and Mathletics homework has also been set for the children to complete by next Friday.
- The Thematic Curriculum homework is now finished for this term. Well done to all the children who created excellent Maya-themed projects.
Florence brought in her home-made chocolate to share with the class and Bonnie created an eye-catching Maya headdress!
Reminders:
3B and 3G have swimming on Mondays this term and can come to school in PE kit.
21.5.24: Year 3/4 Viking Games
Children should come to school in P.E. kit with trainers. If the weather is hot, children should bring a hat, wear sun cream and have a water bottle. If it turns out to be a chilly day, a jumper will be needed!
