English

In English this week, we have completed our non-chronological reports on Tobago. The children really enjoyed getting to know about a new country, and they all produced fabulously presented and detailed reports.  

We start our new book next week – Leon and The Place Between. We will be working on producing rich and vivid setting and character descriptions. It is also National Poetry Day on Thursday, when we will be creating our own poem inspired by the nature around us.  

Maths

Our Maths learning this week has been focused on addition and subtraction. The children have learnt multiple alternative strategies for adding and subtracting as well as practising adding and subtracting 4-digit numbers using the formal column method.

Next week we will be deepening our understanding of subtraction and addition by focusing on solving word problems as well as using bar models.

Thematic

Our science learning continued this week with the task of planning, designing and carrying out an experiment to explore the relationship between the height an object is dropped from and the volume the object makes when it lands. The children got to work with decibel monitors, and we analysed the data using tables and graphs.

Special mention should also go to the children who took part in learning how to perform a Māori Haka during our PE lesson this week. It was amazing to see the children embrace the challenge and express themselves through coordinated movement. Ringa Pakia!

Love to Learn

READING: Children in Year 4 are expected to read at home at least three times a week. It is important that the children bring in their reading records daily so that we can check in with progress and read with the children in school. Please read as often as possible at home. Thank you for your support.

THEMATIC:  This term, we would like you to tell us/show us how we hear sounds/what affects the pitch and volume of sounds/how vibrations travel through different materials.

Reminders:

The expectation of uniform is that hair is tied back if it is below the shoulders. Hoodies (apart from those provided by the school) are not permitted and children should be wearing school shoes, not trainers apart from on PE days. PE kit should be navy or black with their house colour t-shirt.
