One Childhood - One Chance

17.5.24 Year 4 Weekly News

What a week year 4!

In Maths this week,  the children continued their unit of solving problems with money and measure.  They have been discovering the most appropriate unit of measure for various items and then learning the skills to convert this into different units by multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. Next week, the children will be completing the unit on problem solving and prepare for the next unit after half term!

In English this week, the children wrote a narrative linking to the mythical sea creature they created earlier this term. They have worked incredibly hard this week and spent a lot of time focusing on editing and improving their work. The children also created freeze frames to show reactions of children in the text. Next week, the children will be writing a persuasive letter to an MP, trying to stop the balloon release over the sea in our story! They will focus on the impact of plastic on the dolphins and other sea creatures.

This week in thematic, the children learnt about states of matter and the processes that can change materials from one state to another. They also learnt how to predict using scientific vocabulary. Next week, the children are making ice cream as part of their science this term. The children will also be learning about Islam as our RE focus this term.
