In Maths this week, the children have been looking at symmetry in 2D shapes. They have identified 2D shapes within 2D shapes. Next week, the children will be working on creating symmetrical patterns, finding lines of symmetry and investigating symmetrical letters in their names! 

In English this week,  the children wrote character descriptions of the children in our class text. On Wednesday, the children sketched pomegranates and tasted them if they liked too! This was an incredibly immersive experience for the children and they thoroughly enjoyed it! This then led to a vivid description of pomegranates using rich vocabulary and similes and metaphors. 

In thematic this week, we started our new topic 'My home is your home.' On Monday, the children created a double page spread to celebrate Broadstairs town and all the wonderful things that can be found there. On Wednesday, the children went on an OS symbol treasure hunt around the school. They worked in teams to find clues to solve the missing word. Today, the children walked around Broadstairs carrying out some fieldwork. They visited local businesses to talk about the busiest months, they counted foot-fall and tallied the range of shops and businesses they found. In the afternoon, they then wrote this up into a fieldwork report.
