One Childhood - One Chance

21.6.24 Year 4 Weekly news

What a busy week for year 4!

In Maths this week, the children have been creating symmetrical patterns, finding lines of symmetry and investigating symmetrical letters in their names! They have now completed the unit on shape and symmetry! Next week, the children will be looking at position and direction. They will be using grid references to describe positions and learning about how to explain translations.

In English this week,  the children focused on using speech in their writing. They edited an extract of speech from the text and then used those skills to write their own dialogue linking to the class text. Next week in English, the children will be writing a narrative focusing on adverbial phrases. The children will write in first person to recount Ahmet's story and the journey he went on to get to safety, The week will start with a visual plan and vocabulary gather!

In thematic this week, the children compared the human and physical geography of the UK and Italy. The children have some previous knowledge of Italy from when we learnt about Pompeii. They researched both countries and then made a fact file comparison. The children also looked at Broadstairs over time and how the land use had changed due to the ever-changing demographic of the area. Next week, the children will be creating dioramas to model the land use in Broadstairs and explain how topography links to this.

On Thursday we celebrated diversity day across the school. During the first lesson, the children learnt more about their classes country. After break, they went on a tour of the school to learn about the other countries the rest of the school had been learning about! It was a fantastic morning celebrating the diverse countries of the world!

Finally, a Big shout out to 4B for winning this year's sports day! A huge well done to all the children who took part in such a fantastic morning of sport!
