The Speaker Competition
The Speaker Competition
The Speaker Competition is back! Every year, the children take part in a trust wide competition based on oracy and their ability to present a speech based around a given title.
What is The Speaker?
- The Speaker is an oracy competition.
- Pupils in each class will prepare, rehearse and perform a speech around a given topic.
- The speech should be no longer than 2 minutes and should not use props or presentations.
- Each class will vote for 2 – 3 class speakers.
- The class winners will then compete in year group heats where 3-year group winners will be selected.
- After this, the winners from year 3,4,5 and 6 will take part in the Upton Speaker Final. Parents of those children taking part will be invited to watch. 3 school winners will be decided.
- These winners will perform their speech once more…this time competing against other school winners.
- An overall speaker will be chosen, and awarded the title ‘The Viking Young Speaker, 2023’.
This year’s title:
You wouldn’t believe it but….
This year, the title has been designed to make children think outside the box. Children will be set this as half term home learning and we would like all children to have a go at writing their own speech and then those who feel like they want to will share their speech with their class. More information about the competition and speech is on each year group’s blog.
