Termly Home Learning Task - Term 4: God and Mortals
This term in Year 5 we will be beginning our new topic, Gods and Mortals. The children will be deepening their understanding of ancient Greece and begin to think about the impact of this civilisation on our modern-day society. We would like the children to delve into the topic during their home learning by exploring one of these tasks. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make, the possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought back into school during the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success! Likewise, if you children create something digital, feel free to email this to class teachers.
We look forward to seeing what fabulous projects are created.
English:
In English this week we looked at the gods and goddesses from a range of ancient civilisations, including Ancient Greeks, Vikings, Saxons, Ancient Egyptians, Romans and the Maya. We wrote non-chronological reports, comparing the different gods within and across the civilisations.
Next week we will be starting our new text and writing instructions.
Maths:
This week in maths we finished our unit on angles and completed our post-unit quiz. We calculated angles on a straight line and investigated angles in different shapes and decided whether the statements are always, sometimes or never true.
Next week we will be returning to fractions and how they link with percentages.
Thematic Curriculum:
This week our afternoon lessons have been linked to PSHE and habits. We discussed what habits are, whether they are positive or negative and how we can deal with unhealthy habits. We also looked at bleeding and how to treat a wound and what to do in an emergency. In our e-safety session, we looked at the importance of passwords and had a go at creating a secure password.
Next week we will begin our new topic: Gods and Mortals.
