Termly Home Learning Task - Term 6: Tides of Change

This term in Year 5 we will be continuing our topic ‘Tides of Change’. During our thematic lessons, the children will be delving further into the history as well as the human and physical geography of their local area! We would like the children to immerse themselves in the topic during their home learning by exploring another one of these tasks, or a task of their choosing which links. They may present their work in any way that they wish; it could be a presentation, poster, or something that they make, the possibilities are endless. This piece of work will need to be brought back into school by the last week of term. If something is physically created, please can this be brought in or a photo stuck into books so we can celebrate the children’s success!

We look forward to seeing more fabulous projects.

English:

In English this week we wrote an explanation text about an endangered animal of our choosing. These include the Amur leopard, orangutans and the hawksbill turtle. The explanation texts explore the reasons why the animal is endangered and what conservation efforts are being used to protect it.

Next week, we will begin our new English text and write some diary entries and letters

Maths:

This week in maths we began our unit on shape. Our focus has been on 2D shapes and knowing the features and properties that make each shape what it is. We looked at the different types of triangles and a variety of quadrilaterals, and explained their features using key vocabulary.

Next week we will continue our unit with a focus on 3D shapes.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week our afternoon lessons have had a PSHE focus. We began the week with our puberty session and all the children acted in a mature and respectful manner. Then, we looked at budgeting and the importance of spending and saving money responsibly. We ended the week by exploring values and customs, both our own and those in the community.

Next week we will be looking at the history of Ramsgate and Broadstairs in greater depth.

Shout Out...

A huge well done to Poppy in 5G who has been awarded the gold award by her Brownie unit (4th Ramsgate), which is the highest award available. Everyone at Upton is very proud of your achievement.
