Home Learning Task:

Attached below is the overarching Thematic Curriculum homework ideas. Please refer to the homework menu which gives a variety of creative tasks for the children to choose from. Children only need to complete one task as a minimum but can choose to complete more if they wish.

English:

This week children have been writing a speech about being the leader of the Island. Children  considered persuasive devices to ensure they were chosen. Towards the end of the week, they used their oracy skills to read their speeches aloud to the class thinking about intonation and expression. We then voted to see who persuaded us enough to be the leader of Eels Island based on the persuasive devices used in their speech.

Next week we will be debating whether Dooby is a good leader or not and why. We will need to consider both sides of the argument and take part in a debate to get our thoughts and opinions across.  

 

Maths:

This week in maths we have been focusing on multiplication. We have looked at short multiplication and formal written method including decimals.

 Next week, we will be moving onto to learning about short and long division.  Please ensure children are accessing TTRS to learn their times tables as this underpins everything in maths.

Thematic Curriculum:

This week, the children have been investigating the idea that broad groupings, such as micro-organisms, plants, and animals, can be sub-divided. Children created their own classification keys and went out into our environment to classify plants. Year 6 discussed reasons why species are placed in one group and not another, recognised that living things produce offspring of the same kind and understood that normally offspring vary and are not identical to their parents. 

 

Next week, Children will create their own investigation to look at – How many living things live in the school environment? They will Explore the life-cycles of a variety of species. Compare what is the same and what is different between species and explore the life processes of some plants and animals.

 

Reading:

Minimum 3x a week. Reading record must be signed by an adult. Can be completed on your own or with your parents.

Spelling Shed:

Once a week – Friday to Friday. 

Tasks will be completed online, with new tasks set every week.

Tasks will always follow the spellings being taught in class that week. 

 

 Times Tables Rock Stars:

Minimum 3x a week.

Can be completed on tablets, laptops or mobile phones though the app or the website.
