One Childhood - One Chance

Back to the Eighties for Charity

Children and staff at Upton Juniors in Broadstairs travelled back to the 1980s for a special celebration day.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Comic Relief charity’s first ever Red Nose Day, a non uniform day allowed pupils to glam up in their finest sparkly outfits.

To add to the fun, parents and children had the chance to dance to musical memories from the era in a themed outdoor disco on the school field.

Head of School Darci Arthur said: “It was a brilliant day and a fun way to celebrate a charity that has done so much to support children for four decades.

“There were some truly fantastic outfits on show and it was a real colourful occasion celebrated in true Upton style.”

Teacher Izzy Reed is Upton’s Personal Development Lead. She said: “Since launching in 1985, Red Nose Day has raised millions to support vulnerable families across the UK.

“Our children dressed in funny red or 1980s inspired outfits and donated money to do so – we raised approximately £400 for the charity.

“The children learnt about the important work the Red Nose Day campaigns to do improve the lives of those who experience hardship.

“It was important for Upton to recognise and take part in this important campaign as it is a valuable experience for our pupils to understand the wider world and the significant role of local and global communities. This is key aspect of our PSHE curriculum.”

Upton Junior School is part of the Viking Academy Trust with Chilton Primary School and Ramsgate Arts Primary School.
