20.12.24 Year 3 Weekly News!
WOW- What a term!
RE
This week at Upton, it’s been RE Week, and in Year 3, we’ve had a fantastic time diving into the colourful celebrations of Diwali, the Festival of Lights. The children have been captivated by the story of Rama and Sita, learning about their journey and the triumph of good over evil. Through storytelling and discussions, the children explored the values of courage, loyalty, and hope that are at the heart of this beautiful tradition.
As part of our creative activities, the children expressed their learning by designing and creating Rangoli patterns, a symbol of welcome and good fortune in Diwali celebrations. Their colourful designs were filled with intricate shapes and bold colours, showcasing their artistic talents and bringing a burst of festive joy to our classrooms. It has been wonderful to see the children engaging so thoughtfully with this learning experience, appreciating the traditions and stories that hold special meaning for so many people.
English
This week in English, our learning has been creatively tied to our Thematic topic! The children were given the exciting task of designing their very own Knowledge Organiser based on an aspect of what they have learnt about Forces and Light.
This activity was a wonderful way for the children to consolidate their understanding of key scientific concepts. They revisited topics like the properties of light, how shadows are formed, as well as the effects of different forces.
At the same time, this task allowed the children to develop their understanding of non-fiction writing, focusing on layout and structure. From headings and subheadings to bullet points, diagrams, and labelled images, the children explored how to present information in an engaging and organised way. It has been fantastic to see their creativity shine as they carefully chose what to include and how to display their knowledge. These Knowledge Organisers have demonstrated not only the children’s grasp of the science content but also their growing ability to think critically about how information is communicated effectively.
We are incredibly proud of their hard work and enthusiasm for this cross-curricular learning experience. Ask your child to share their Knowledge Organiser with you—they’ve achieved so much this week!
