One Childhood - One Chance

Year 4 Weekly News - Friday 14.02.25

We have had a fabulous week in Year 4 this week. Take a look at what we have been up to…

Key Messages: for next term…

Children return to school on Monday 24th February for Term 4.

An extra pair of trainers (they can stay at school) will be required so that the children can use the field at lunchtime.

  • Tuesday is swimming for 4R and 4Y. Please ensure that full swimming kit is brought in on that day. If your child cannot take part, please contact their teacher or the office to explain why.
  • Thursday is PE for all of Year 4. Please send the children in wearing their PE kit.
  • Children can come to school in their PE kit on swimming days.
  • Please ensure children are wearing correct school uniform and shoes, including a tie.
  • Please ensure children are bringing in their water bottles every day, preferably with a sports cap.

Weekly homework tasks:

Reading daily – please bring in your reading record signed by an adult.

TTRS - at least 3 times a week for 10 minutes.

Mathletics – Friday to Friday

AR Quizzes – complete on Accelerated Reader once book has been completed. This can be done at home or at school.

Please note, Mathletics has a different login to AR and TTRS.

Sir Linkalot – children can download the app and watch spelling videos.

***Well done to everyone who has received a certificate so far for either Mathletics or TTRS***

Term 3: Cracking the Earth’s Core

The children have worked exceptionally hard on their homework projects this term. Well done and thank you to everyone who brought one in to share with us.

English:

In English this week we wrote a non-chronological report about volcanoes. Our focus was to use correct organisational features such as subheadings, technical vocabulary and a glossary.

A highlight of the week was the poetry recital on Thursday afternoon. Every single child performed confidently and showed true courage to stand on the stage. They should all be very proud of themselves. Thank you to our Upton families who came to support the children.

Maths:

This week in maths we completed our unit on fractions. We subtracted proper fractions from fractions greater than 1 and explored quantities of fractions in more depth. We finished the week by comparing calculations and completing our post-unit quiz.

Thematic Curriculum:

Our afternoon lessons this week had an RE focus, which was centred around Buddhism. We explored the story of Buddha, the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, Buddhist worship and temples. We also learnt about Wesak (Buddha’s birthday) and made a lantern to represent the light of the Buddha.

Finally, a HUGE well done to 4G. Here is a message from Mr Smith:

I wanted to highlight the exceptional work that 4G have been doing in music this term. They have had the difficult task of forming their own orchestra and learning a piece of music.

Their attitudes towards this task have been nothing short of what I would expect from professional musicians. Every student took ownership and care of their instrument and made sure they knew their part.

Below is a video from our last lesson on Tuesday. This is after 2 weeks of practice. They all worked their hardest to make such a good performance.
