This week, the children wrote a playscript. They focused on a conversation from the text and turned it into a scene from a play. They learnt the appropriate use of semi-colons and brackets for stage directions. At the end of the week, the children performed their playscripts to the class. In reading, the children created their own character to join the children in the text. They thought about how the character behaved, their likes and dislikes and any special hobbies they might have. Next week, the children will be writing a persuasive speech and take part in a year group debate.
Maths
This week, the children were focusing on short division using the formal method and using known facts when multiplying and dividing. Next week, the children will be starting area and perimeter!
Thematic
The children learnt how the earth orbits the sun this week and how this creates day and night. They learnt how the seasons change across the world. For the rest of the week, the children learnt about the eight planets in our solar system and how long it takes them to orbit the sun. They also researched how many moons each planets have! They created a double page spread to show what they learnt. Next week, the children will be learning about the moon phases.
Art Competition
In this term's art competition, you will get the chance to create your own Pop Art Masterpiece inspired by our artist of the term: Roy Lichtenstein!
Using Lichtenstein's style as a guide, create a work of art that uses bright colours, bold outlines, and Ben-Day dots to show an exciting scene or object from your daily life. This could be a favourite toy, a scene at school, anything that is personal to you.
The competition starts from Monday 11th November and closes Friday 20th December. Please bring all entries to Mr Mason’s art room and be sure to include your name and class on your artwork. Winners will be announced at the beginning of term 3. Good luck!

Homework
- Please read with your child at least 3 times a week.
- All children have been given a ZPD to help them identify the correct books for their reading level. Once your child has read their book, they will need to complete a quiz on it before getting a new one. These quizzes can be done either in school or at home on Accelerated Reader using the log-in codes found in their reading records.
